Economic and Commercial Law
GOAL OF THE STUDIES
The goal of the studies is to improve the qualifications of management of commercial companies, employees of offices and agencies, local government units, as well as lawyers, legal counsels, economists and individual entrepreneurs.
DESCRIPTION
The studies cover issues related to law, running a business, including the functioning of commercial companies, contracts in business transactions, securities as well as elements of tax law, labour law, and bankruptcy law.
GRADUATE PROFILE
After completing the studies, the graduate has knowledge in the field of economic and commercial law, in particular company law, civil law, tax law, bankruptcy law, labour law, European company law, and commercial contract law.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum focuses on issues related to law. During the studies, issues in the field of civil law, securities law, company law, capital market law, European company law, bankruptcy and restructuring law, contracts in trade, public economic law, tax law, employment relations in capital companies are presented.
LECTURERS
Classes are conducted by employees of the University of Silesia as well as specialists and experts with extensive experience, including:
- Prof. Jadwiga Glumińska-Pawlic – professor of law, author of many publications in the field of tax law and public finance. A recognized expert in local government finance, especially local taxes. Tax advisor, Chair of the National Examination Commission for Tax Advisory.
- Prof. Jacek Górecki – lawyer, legal counsel, professor of law. Author of scientific works in the field of civil law, commercial law, and private international law.
- Prof. Janusz A. Strzępka – Full Professor, long-term Head of the Department of Economic and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia in Katowice. Professionally associated with legal services for mining entities. Entered on the list of arbitrators of the Court of Arbitration. Author of numerous publications in the field of private law, in particular construction law, company law, and economic law.
- Piotr Pinior, PhD, DLitt – Director of the Institute of Law, Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia in Katowice, member of the Economic and Commercial Law Research Team. Author of publications in Poland and abroad in the field of civil, economic, and commercial law, in particular company law, co-author of a commentary to the Code of Commercial Companies, the Civil Code, the Act on Insurance and Reinsurance Activity.
- Anna Lichosik, PhD – doctor of law, recognised doctoral dissertation on capital market law. She completed a Master’s degree in Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia in Katowice, a Bachelor’s degree in Management at the School of Management at the University of Silesia in Chorzów and a Master’s degree in International Economic Relations at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics in Katowice. In addition, she completed legal apprenticeship at the District Chamber of Legal Advisers in Katowice. She specialises in capital market law.
- Urszula Torbus, PhD – Assistant Professor at the Institute of Law, Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia in Katowice. Experienced lecturer and training instructor in labour law. Author of numerous publications in the field of labour law, participant in international research projects, scholarship holder of the European Commission and the French government, mediator. Her research interests focus on individual and collective labour law.
- Wojciech Wyrzykowski, PhD – legal counsel, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Law, Leader of the Economic and Commercial Law Research Team at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia in Katowice. Author of publications in the field of civil law and company law, including a commentary to the Civil Code.
- Ewa Zielińska, PhD – Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia, legal counsel. The main research interests are focused on company law and construction contract law. Author of many publications in the field of company law.
- Mateusz Żaba, PhD – doctor of law, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia. Author of publications in Poland and abroad in the field of commercial, bankruptcy and cooperative law. Speaker and participant of several dozen scientific conferences in Poland and abroad.

The classses take place once a week, on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Graduation criteria:
In order to complete postgraduate studies, a student must write a diploma thesis.
Graduation document:
Postgraduate diploma issued by the University of Silesia in Katowice.

Candidates
The studies are addressed to entrepreneurs, management staff of commercial companies, employees of offices and agencies, local government units, lawyers, legal counsels, attorneys, judges, notaries and economists.

Electronic admission process in Online Application System (IRK) on the dates specified in Online Application System (IRK). Choose and proceed according to the instructions.
Admission criteria:
Candidates are admitted to studies according to the registration order and the result of the admission procedure (if it was conducted).

FEES
After being admitted to postgraduate studies, you may start your studies, subject to paying the fee for postgraduate studies. Payments should be made to the student’s individual account, within the deadlines specified in the agreement.
