Computer Science in Postprimary Schools
GOAL OF THE STUDIES
The goal of the studies is to increase competences in the field of information technology, broadening and systematising theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of computer science.
DESCRIPTION
The studies prepare for the implementation and verification of IT system components in accordance with their specifications and allow you to acquire the ability to use IT tools in practise. The knowledge passed on during studies concerns, among others: structured programming methods, operating systems, computer networks, databases and web development techniques, IT techniques, text processing, the use of spreadsheets, the use of databases, the use of presentation graphics, preparation of e-learning materials and placing them on the appropriate platform, using services in IT networks, obtaining and processing information, and the ability to use information technology in a diversified way in pedagogical work.
GRADUATE PROFILE
After completing the studies, the student:
- has the basic skills needed to implement and verify components of IT systems in accordance with their specifications
- has the ability to use IT tools in practice
- has a basic knowledge of structured programming methods, operating systems, computer networks, databases and web development techniques
- is competent in the field of information technology, text processing, the use of spreadsheets, use of databases, use of presentation graphics, preparation of e-learning materials and placing them on an appropriate platform, using services in IT networks, obtaining and processing information, and the ability to use information technology in a diversified way in pedagogical work
- is prepared to teach computer science in postprimary schools and to conduct interesting lessons tailored to the student’s individual needs, as well as to use IT tools during lessons.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum covers the scope of information technology, broadens and systematises the theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of computer science. The classes are mainly conducted using the e-learning method.
LECTURERS
Classes are conducted by a team of research and teaching staff from the Faculty of Science and Technology – outstanding experts in their respective fields. An additional advantage of the lecturers are their teaching qualifications and knowledge of work at school.
Classes are conducted mainly using the e-learning method and in cooperation with teachers from postprimary schools.

Duration:
Number of semesters: 3
Number of hours: 355 hours including 224 hours in the e-learning form
Organisation of classes:
Classes are conducted in the form of sessions at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Silesia in Katowice and at schools.
Graduation criteria:
In order to complete postgraduate studies, a student must obtain credits from all of the courses and exams.
Graduation document:
Postgraduate diploma issued by the University of Silesia in Katowice.
ADMISSION PROCESS
Candidates
For an admission to studies may apply people who have a Master’s degree and the eligibility to teach a subject other than computer science in a postprimary school and the eligibility to teach computer science in a primary school, as well as students of 2nd cycle studies who are in the process of obtaining eligibility to teach the main subject other than computer science and who are eligible to teach computer science in primary school.

Admission criteria:
Candidates are admitted to studies according to the registration order.
Planned date of beginning of classes: October/February
FEES
After being admitted to postgraduate studies, you may start your studies, subject to paying the fee for postgraduate studies. Payments should be made to the student’s individual account, within the deadlines specified in the agreement.
